Herizal Hazri served as the Chief Executive Officer of the Institute for Strategic and International Studies (ISIS) Malaysia from September 2020 to December 2022. In this capacity, he directed the Institute and acted as the primary liaison to the Prime Minister of Malaysia on foreign policy matters, providing critical policy advisory support to both federal and state governments. He notably served under two Prime Ministers, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Dato Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
In 2021, Herizal was appointed to the Malaysian Government’s Consultative Council on Foreign Policy by the then Foreign Minister, Dato’ Seri Saifuddin Abdullah. He played a pivotal role in establishing the Sheikh Zayed Al-Nahyan Chair at ISIS Malaysia and the Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy in the UAE, which fosters collaboration between Malaysia and the UAE in policy development.
Prior to his tenure at ISIS, Herizal served as the Country Representative for The Asia Foundation Malaysia from 2009 to 2020, where he led strategic initiatives, developed partnerships, and managed socioeconomic development projects in collaboration with governments and international organizations. He has also been actively involved in regional partnerships with organizations such as APEC, ASEAN, and Google. Currently, he is engaged in consultation work in the Middle East, leveraging his extensive experience and expertise in international affairs.
