Academic staff may claim publication-related support for accepted publications, subject to Faculty guidelines and approval.

SPF Details

What is the Special Publication Fund (SPF)?
FPE Academic Staff is entitled to claim a maximum of RM3,000 per year once the publication has been accepted.
What documents are required?
  • Proof of Acceptance of publication
  • Proof of payment (Receipts & Bank Transaction Statement)
  • First page of the article
  • Completed application form with all attachments
What can be claimed?
  • Submission / Publication Fee
  • Proofreading
  • Page Charge
Additional Notes

The fund is on a claim basis and HOD verification is required before submission.

Submit your completed application via email to the official Research Office at tdp_fpe@um.edu.my.

Upon Deputy Dean’s approval, the endorsed application document will be returned to you to personally input into the F1RST UM system for claim submission (Modul Bayaran > Bayaran Non PO Inbois > Permohonan Baru).

Kindly acknowledge this fund in your publication(s), e.g. “This publication is partially funded by the Faculty of Business and Economics, Universiti Malaya Special Publication Fund”.

For externally funded research projects, grants must be activated through the official university system before utilisation.

  • All grants must be channelled into an RGMS account
  • Monitor financial status via RGMS e-Finance
  • All expenditures must be processed through the F1RST portal

What is the Postgraduate Research Grant (GPKIT)?
GPKIT is a postgraduate research grant that supports eligible doctoral students in conducting research within the Graduate on Time period.
How do I apply for GPKIT?
Complete all required documents and submit via email to Ms. Siti Khairiha binti Ibrahim with a copy to tdp_fpe@um.edu.my.

Who is eligible?
The grant is applicable to eligible postgraduate research students, subject to Faculty requirements and current Terms of Reference.

UMREC

Universiti Malaya Research Ethics Committee

UMREC reviews all non-medical research involving human participants. Ethical clearance supports good research governance and is often required before publication or formal research activity proceeds.

Important Note

Data collection and participant recruitment must not begin before ethics approval is granted.

  • Submit through the official UMREC online system
  • Select the correct form category for staff or students
  • Insert tdp_fpe@um.edu.my for Level 2 Approval in Part G where required
  • Download the required attachments from the official UMREC website

What is UM Research Ethics (UMREC)?
UMREC reviews all non-medical research involving human participants, including funded and unfunded research. Ethical clearance is recommended as part of good research governance, and data collection or participant recruitment must not begin before approval is obtained.
Where do I submit my UMREC application?
Applications should be submitted through the UMREC online system. Applicants also need to insert tdp_fpe@um.edu.my for Level 2 Approval in Part G, and ensure they use the correct form for either staff or students.
Does the faculty provide research funding support?
Yes, subject to availability of funds. The Faculty offers internal grants, including research and book grants, as well as selected matching and teaching material development grants. A Special Publication Fund is also available for eligible publication-related costs.
Can students apply for research funding?
Undergraduate students are not eligible. Postgraduate students may apply for the Postgraduate Research Grant (GPKIT), and may also enquire with UM Business School (UMBS) regarding the postgraduate conference fund.
I received an external research grant. How do I start using it?
The grant must first be channelled into an RGMS account. Once activated, it can be monitored through RGMS e-Finance, and related expenditures must be made through the F1RST portal.
