Prof. Dr. Andrew Beer

Prof. Dr. Andrew Beer is Executive Dean of UniSA Business and previously served as Dean of Research and Innovation at the UniSA Business School. Prior to joining UniSA in 2016, he held academic appointments at The University of Adelaide and Flinders University. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Adelaide and a PhD from the Australian National University.

He has also served internationally as a Research Fellow at the University of Plymouth, a Leverhulme Fellow at the University of Ulster, and a Visiting Professor at the University of North Texas. Prof. Beer chaired the South Australian Government’s Homelessness Strategic Group (2011–2017), served on the Australian Research Council’s College of Experts, and is a Fellow of the Regional Australia Institute and the UK Academy of Social Sciences. He was Chair of the Regional Studies Association (2013–2017).

His research focuses on housing markets, regional growth, structural economic change, and the impacts of population ageing. Current work includes studies on the closure of Australia’s automotive industry, cross-national place leadership, housing quality and condition, and service and housing use by ageing populations. He is also co-editing the Handbook of City and Regional Leadership (Edward Elgar) and completing a Policy Expo for the Regional Studies Association on place-based policy.
