Bachelor of Finance (BFin)

The Bachelor of Finance is a 3 ½ year programme with the objective to produce graduates with thorough knowledge and technical abilities in finance to meet with the increase in the market demand for finance graduates. The Bachelor of Finance programme allows students to embark on careers in fields of finance such as risk management, funds management, banking, investment analysis and financial analysis.

Aim of the Programme 

To produce graduates who exhibit a strong knowledge base and technical competency in finance. 

Learning Outcomes of the programme 

At the end of the programme students are expected to:

• Master the concepts, theories and financial tools in business decision-making
• Apply quantitative and qualitative financial knowledge in the conduct of their career.
• Implement corporate social responsibility that is related to different institutions and financial services.
• Analyse the legal environment, ethics and economics related to the financial profession.
• Apply relevant soft skills and technical skills to work independently and collaborate in processing and communicating financial issues.
• Analyse financial information using the instruments and mechanisms available to solve financial problems.
• Analyse the movement of the pricing of financial products offered in the global financial markets.
• Demonstrate financial and entrepreneurial abilities in managing business. 

Professional Recognition 

The programme is now in the process of obtaining professional recognition from the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) programme, the most respected and recognized investment qualification in the world.

Duration of study: 7 Semesters

A Malaysian candidate who wishes to pursue a programme of study at the Universiti Malaya must fulfil the university's entry requirements as follows:
(A)

Passed the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) with a credit (Grade B) in Bahasa Melayu/Bahasa Malaysia subject or a credit (Grade B) in Bahasa Melayu/Bahasa Malaysia July paper and pass in History, Mathematics and English Language;

and

(B)

Achieve a minimum Band in the Malaysian University English Test (MUET) as required in special requirements of the programme.

and

(C) Fulfilled any of the programme Special Entry Requirements as listed below.

Passed the Matriculation/Foundation with at least a CGPA of 3.30;

and

Obtained at least Grade B+ at the Matriculation/ Foundation level in Mathematics;

and

Obtained at least Grade B+ at the Matriculation/Foundation level in two (2) of the following subjects:

• Accounting
• Economics
• Business Studies
• Physics
• Chemistry
• Accountant in Business
• Financial Accounting
• Management Accounting

and

Obtained at least Grade B+ for Mathematics and pass in English Language at the SPM level;

and

Obtained at least Band 3 in MUET

Passed the interview.

DIPLOMA/EQUIVALENT OTHER  REQUIREMENTS

Science and Arts Stream

REQUIREMENT 1

Possess a Diploma in Finance, Banking, Insurance and other related field from any institutions recognised by the Government of Malaysia and approved by the University’s Senate with at least a CGPA of 3.30;

and

Obtained at least Grade B+ at the Diploma level in Mathematics;

and

Obtained at least Grade B+ at the Diploma level in two (2) of the following subjects:

• Accounting
• Economics
• Business Studies
• Physics
• Chemistry 

                           and

Obtained at least Grade B+ for Mathematics and pass in English Language at the SPM level;

and

Obtained at least Band 3 in MUET

and

Passed the interview.

OR

REQUIREMENT 2

Passed the STPM not in current year with at least a CGPA of 3.30

and

Obtained at least Grade B+ at the STPM level in Mathematics (M) / Mathematics (T);

and

Obtained at least Grade B+ at the STPM level in two (2) of the following subjects:

• Accounting
• Economics
• Business Studies
• Physics
• Chemistry 

Obtained at least Grade B+ for Mathematics and pass in English Language at the SPM level;

and

Obtained at least Band 3 in MUET

and

Passed the interview.

OR

REQUIREMENT 3

Passed the Matriculation/ Foundation not in current year with at least a CGPA of 3.30;

and

Obtained at least Grade B+ at the Matriculation/ Foundation level in Mathematics;

 and

Obtained at least Grade B+ at the Matriculation/ Foundation level in two (2) of the following subjects:

• Accounting
• Economics
• Business Studies
• Physics
• Chemistry
• Accountant in Business
• Financial Accounting
• Management Accounting

and

Obtained at least Grade B+ for Mathematics and pass in English Language at the SPM level;

and

Obtained at least Band 3 in MUET

and

Passed the interview.

A-Level, AUSMAT and IB

REQUIREMENT 1

Passed the GCE A-Level with at least Grade B in Mathematics and one (1) of the following subjects:

• Accounting
• Economics
• Business Studies
• Physics
• Chemistry

and

Obtained at least Grade B+ for Mathematics and pass in English Language at the SPM level;

and

Obtained at least Band 3 in MUET

However, applicants who do not have MUET but have the following results may be considered for conditional offer by fulfilling the MUET requirements within the duration of one (1) academic session:

• Obtained at least Band 4.5 in IELTS (Academic)

or

• Obtained score of at least 477 (PBT) / 153 (CBT) / 53 (IBT) in TOEFL.

and

Passed the interview.

OR

REQUIREMENT 2

Possess the International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB) with a minimum score of 35 points;

and

Obtained at least Grade 5 (Higher Level) at the International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB) level in Mathematics and one (1) of the following subjects:

• Economics
• Business Studies
• Physics
• Chemistry

and

Obtained at least Grade B+ for Mathematics and pass in English Language at the SPM level;

and

Obtained at least Band 3 in MUET

However, applicants who do not have MUET but have the following results may be considered for conditional offer by fulfilling the MUET requirements within the duration of one (1) academic session:

• Obtained at least Band 4.5 in IELTS (Academic)

or

• Obtained score of at least 477 (PBT) / 153 (CBT) / 53 (IBT) in TOEFL.

and

Passed the interview.

OR

REQUIREMENT 3

Possess the Australian Matriculation Programme (AUSMAT) with a minimum Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) rank of 80 percent (%);

and

Obtained at least a score of 70% at the Australian Matriculation Programme (AUSMAT) level in Mathematics and one (1) of the following subjects:

• Business Management and Enterprise
• Economics
• Accounting and Finance
• Physics
• Chemistry

and

Obtained at least Grade B+ for Mathematics and pass in English Language at the SPM level;

and

Obtained at least Band 3 in MUET

However, applicants who do not have MUET but have the following results may be considered for conditional offer by fulfilling the MUET requirements within the duration of one (1) academic session:

• Obtained at least Band 4.5 in IELTS (Academic);

or

• Obtained a score of at least 477 (PBT)/      153 (CBT)/ 53 (IBT) in TOEFL;

and

Passed the interview.
