We are pleased to share that Associate Professor Dr Nurul Shahnaz Ahmad Mahdzan, Head, Department of Finance, FPE, was invited as plenary speaker at the prestigious National Financial Literacy Symposium 2023 (NFLS 2023) which took place on 10 October 2023 at Sasana Kijang, Bank Negara Malaysia.

The NFLS is a unique platform that brings together policymakers, academics and experts from the industry, to discuss and find solutions for current and future challenges in financial literacy and inclusion. The symposium this year explored important issues such as improving long-term financial well-being, building resilience against climate-related issues, and empowering people through digital financial services for overall financial inclusion. NFLS2023 was co-hosted by key players of the Financial Education Network (FEN), namely Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM), the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) and Agensi Kaunseling dan Pengurusan Kredit (AKPK), in conjunction with FEN’s Financial Literacy Month 2023. The event was officiated by the Deputy Governor of BNM and other key players from AKPK, EPF and the Malaysian Economic Association (MEA).

In her plenary session entitled “Elevating Financial Well-being for a Sustainable Future” Associate Professor Dr Nurul Shahnaz discussed about the progress of financial literacy among Malaysians, the challenges ahead, and proposed policy recommendations. Together with two other speakers from OECD and FINCO, the plenary session encapsulated the vital synergy between financial empowerment and a resilient future. Key facets discussed were fostering financial literacy, developing impactful and effective approaches to improve financial awareness, to formulate a comprehensive national strategy for Financial Education Network (FEN).

Kudos, Associate Professor Dr Nurul Shahnaz!
