Business education in the University of Malaya (UM) dates back to 1966 when the Faculty of Economics and Administration first offered business and accounting courses. In line with the increasing demand for accounting and business programmes, the Faculty of Business and Accountancy (FBA) was subsequently established in 1997 to focus on developing these programmes. FBA strives to meet the challenges of preparing students to play a vital role in industry and nation building. FBA seeks to remain at the forefront of business and accounting education and continues to enjoy the reputation as an excellent knowledge-based institution.

ENTRY REQUIREMENT

A Malaysian candidate who wishes to pursue a programme of study at the Universiti Malaya must fulfil the University's entry requirements as follows: (1) Passed the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) with Grade B in Bahasa Melayu subject
and

(2) Passed the History, Mathematics and English Language subject.

Special Entry Requirements (Malaysian)

STPM (Current Year)

MATRICULATION/FOUNDATION (Current Year)

Science and Arts Stream

Passed the STPM with at least a CGPA of 3.30;

and

Obtained at least Grade B+ at the STPM level in three (3) of the following subjects:

✔  Accounting

✔  Mathematics (M)

✔  Mathematics (T)

✔  Economics

✔  Business Studies

✔  Physics

✔  Chemistry

and

Obtained at least Grade B+ for Mathematics / Additional Mathematics subject and Grade B in English Language at the SPM level;

Science, Accounting Stream & Science Social

Passed the Matriculation/Foundation with at least a CGPA of 3.30;

And

Obtained at least Grade B+ at the Matriculation/Foundation level in three (3) of the following subjects:

✔ Accountant in Business

and

Obtained at least Grade B+ for Mathematics / Additional Mathematics and Grade B in English Language at the SPM level;

DIPLOMA

OTHERS REQUIREMENT

Possess a Diploma in Business Studies or other related field from any institutions recognised by the Government of Malaysia and approved by the University’s Senate with at least a CGPA of 3.30;

And

Obtained at least Grade B+ at the Diploma level in three (3) of the following subjects:

✔Accounting

✔Mathematics

✔Economics

✔Business Studies

Physics

Chemistry 

   And

Obtained at least Grade B+ for Mathematics / Additional Mathematics and Grade B in English Language at the SPM level;

And

Obtained at least Band 4.0 in MUET

GCE A-Level 

Passed the GCE A-Level with at least Grade B in any  two (2) of the following subjects:

✔  Accounting

✔  Mathematics

✔  Economics

✔  Business Studies

✔  Physics

✔  Chemistry

and

Obtained at least Band 4.0 in MUET

However, applicants who do not have MUET but have the following results may be considered for conditional offer by fulfilling the MUET requirements within the duration of one (1) academic session:

  • Obtained at least Band 6.0 (Academic) in IELTS;  OR 
  • Obtained at least score 60 (iBT)/ 8.5 (Essential (online)) in TOEFL;  OR
  • Obtained at least score 59 in Pearson Test of English (PTE); OR 
  • Obtained at least score 169 (B1 Preliminary, B2 First, C1 Advanced, C2 Proficiency) / 169 (Linguaskill Online) / 200 (Occupational English Test (OET) – conventional /online).

International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma

Possess the International Baccalaureate (IB)  Diploma with a minimum score of 35 points;

and

Obtained at least Grade 5 (Higher Level) at the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma level in Mathematics and two (2) of the following subjects:

✔  Mathematics

✔  Economics

✔  Business Studies

✔  Physics

✔  Chemistry

and

Obtained at least Band 4.0 in MUET

However, applicants who do not have MUET but have the following results may be considered for conditional offer by fulfilling the MUET requirements within the duration of one (1) academic session:

Possess the Australian Matriculation Programme (AUSMAT) with a minimum Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) rank of 80 percent (%);

and

Obtained at least a score of 70% at the Australian Matriculation Programme (AUSMAT) level in Mathematics and two (2) of the following subjects:

✔  Mathematics

✔  Business Management and Enterprise

✔  Economics

✔  Accounting and Finance

✔  Physics

✔  Chemistry

and

Obtained at least Band 4.0 in MUET

However, applicants who do not have MUET but have the following results may be considered for conditional offer by fulfilling the MUET requirements within the duration of one (1) academic session:
